The Magic, Transformation & Rebirth of Scorpio Season

While I’m not a fan of the cold, November, and specifically Scorpio season still manages to be one of my favourite times of year. Purely for the magic and transformation it brings.

As we step into Scorpio season (and my birthday month) we begin the turning of the planet away from the sun and into the increasing dark. From now until Dec 21 the days will get shorter and the hours of darkness longer...

While this can feel kind of depressing - I know I used to feel this way too - it can actually be your most transformative and impactful time of the year...if you let it!

There is beauty to be found in the darkness of Autumn/Winter; the starry skies, the frost patterns as they cover plants and cars alike, and spiderwebs are plentiful and covered in dew. After all, we cannot see the beauty of the stars without the dark.... and, as our energy turns inward and our outdoor activity decreases as the days get colder it’s the time of year to focus on our internal transformation.

November to early February is the contraction of energy that balances the expansion of energy during the Spring & Summer months. You can begin to feel that contraction from September, but it becomes even more pronounced at this time of year as the trees lose their leaves, the flowers die, and the warmth leaches from the earth (in the Northern hemisphere at least).

As the last month of Autumn, November can often feel very wintery in itself, and is a reminder that we must take time to prepare for the hardships of winter - canning, picking, drying, freezing, and preserving the last fruits and vegetables of the summers harvest, as well as tending any last crops of the year that will grow through winter. Taking time to make your home as cosy and inviting as possible, and bringing pieces of nature indoors. but also a timely reminder that all seasons are for action and productivity, and that part of for productivity (and life), is the ability to rest, reflect, daydream, and do nothing.

What to Expect Through Scorpio Season

November is also Scorpio season. It's no coincidence that Scorpio season falls as our days succumb the dark. Scorpio is known as the sign of transformation in the zodiac, the sign that goes deep into the shadow, uncovers what others try to hide, transmutes, and transforms the pain, the darkness, the hardship, to soar higher. Scorpio isn’t afraid of death & rebirth, in fact it embraces it.

Scorpio season can be a time to go deep into the shadow, uncover what is hidden, to transmute and transform trauma, pain, the darkness, hardship, and shadow parts of ourselves and others to soar higher.

We step away from the beauty and balance-focused libra and into the dark, composting, and breaking down phase of the wheel of the year. It is time to surrender and embrace this process as it's what will feed the new life and new opportunity come Spring

Ruled by Pluto, lord of the underworld, and planet of death and rebirth, destruction, and illuminating the shadows of our consciousness this is a time where the things we hide in the dark are brought into the light so they may be healed and transformed.

As our days become cloaked in darkness we must, as in nature, allow certain aspects of ourselves, our routines and habits, and perhaps even some of our goals, to die and fall away. Meaning this can also a season of grief and loss - as there should be with any death or release - if you feel the loss, do not fight the grieving process, as this will only make things harder for yourself, embrace, and feel the loss, and let it pass through you and move on.

November is the perfect season for reflecting on your year so far and any last actions and goals you want to achieve before the end of the year. Start scaling back productivity in a driven/action-oriented sense and instead bring your focus on stillness and inner work.

Themes for November

To round up here, some bullet points for things you should be focusing on and using this Scorpio season for, so that you too can emerge from the stillness of winter revitalised, full of energy, and ready to leap wholeheartedly into the rebirth of spring:

  • Embrace the slower pace and the change in energy.

  • As in nature reflect on the things you want to shed and release through this season and begin the transformation of letting go

  • Embrace your fluidity + your sensuality. The deeply feminine + mystical energy of this time of year.

  • Keep yourself grounded mentally and physically by connecting with nature and seasonal activities; lighting bonfires, collecting sweet chestnuts to roast, gathering acorns, pine cones and conkers to decorate and bring nature into your home.

  • Go deeply inward and begin the process of embracing the shadow parts of yourself you have left unloved and hidden.

  • Embrace the shadow parts of yourself, the things you are most embarrassed or ashamed of, and embrace them with love and compassion.

  • Start to dream and plant the seeds for the coming year + the goals and wishes you want to see come to fruition.

  • Appreciate the beauty of the dark mornings and evenings, see the magic of the starry skies, sunrises, sunsets, and the moon.

  • Move away from the balance and beauty of early Autumn and step into the dark, decaying, and death phase of the year to release and purge.

  • Be kind to yourself. Inner work through this season can be exhausting and draining and more rest is needed.

  • Turn to more sedate activities and past-times

  • Wrap up warm and make the most of the cold, sunshiny days.
